Tom Winpenny (organ)

Organist Tom Winpenny presents a unique recital programme of Stanford organ works from the James J. Binns organ of Queens' College, Cambridge.

Featuring four world premieres this album includes a mix of both well and lesser-known organ works by Stanford, including the Fantasia and Toccata in D minor and the Postlude in D minor through to the early Prelude and Fugue in E minor and the pastoral idyll By the Seashore.

A previous winner of both the First and Audience Prizes at the Miami International Organ Competition, this recording - on the unspoilt Binns organ of 1892 - is the first commercial solo recording to be released by Tom Winpenny.

‘The crisp and rhythmic playing of Tom Winpenny, coupled with a colourful use of the unspoilt Victorian Binns organ (1892) at Queens' College, Cambridge, brings these performances of Stanford's organ works to life’

- Gramophone

‘The combination of instrument, repertory and Tom Winpenny’s immaculate playing is beyond reproach. […] a worthwhile and utterly reliable set of reference recordings; it is to the great credit of Resonus that it has taken on this project.’
International Record Review

‘[...] they’ve managed to place the microphones in an excellent position to get the full interaction of instrument and acoustic'
BBC Radio 3 CD Review

'Played with reedy bite on the Binns organ of Queens’ College, Cambridge, the music transports us to Stanford’s world: though both its chapel and organ date from the early 1890s'
BBC Music Magazine

'[...] this recording now leads the field. [...] I look forward to hearing more from Tom Winpenny, here making his solo recording debut, and Resonus, who have now scored an impressive three out of three with their initial releases.'
