Directing his own Ludovice Ensemble, maestro al cembalo, guest continuo player with various prestigious European Early Music groups, or as a soloist/recitalist, Fernando Miguel Jalôto is presently one of the most notorious Portuguese specialists on historical keyboard instruments. Miguel performs at important venues in all Europe, Israel, China and Japan. In Portugal he is a member of Ensemble Bonne Corde and Real Câmara Baroque Orchestra, and frequently appears with the Gulbenkian Symphony Orchestra and Choir. Miguel recorded for Harmonia Mundi (Andreas Staier); Glossa Music (Jacques Ogg); Ramée (Diana Vinagre); Passacaille Records (Enrico Onofri); Anima & Corpo (Raquel Andueza); Challenge Records and Conditura Records (both with Sofia Diniz). He also recorded a solo double album with the complete harpsichord suites by Dieupart for Brilliant Classics, and Carlos Seixas Harpsichord ‘Concerto in G’ under the direction of Enrico Onofri, for Dynamic. Miguel is the co-founder and director of Ludovice Ensemble, having recorded French Baroque Cantatas for Ramée; Graun sonatas for flute and obligatto harpsichord for Veterum Musica; and chamber pieces by the Avondano family to MPMP.

Miguel is very active as maestro al cembalo, having conducted great Baroque masterpieces by Monteverdi, Lully, Charpentier, Purcell, Handel, Rameau, Bach, Corelli, and, of course, a great amount of Portuguese-Italian Baroque music, including works by Avondano, Almeida, Schiassi, Perez, Giorgi and Tedeschi. He is frequently invited as guest conductor by Portuguese orchestras as well as foreign groups, such as Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, Croatian Baroque Ensemble and Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa. Miguel studied harpsichord at the Early Music and Historical Performance Practice Department of the Royal Conservatory, The Hague (NL) where he completed his bachelor and master degrees with Jacques Ogg. He attended master classes with Gustav Leonhardt, Olivier Baumont, and Ilton Wjuniski, among others, and also studied clavichord and baroque organ. Miguel has a Master Degree in Music at Aveiro University, and a Doctoral Degree in Historical Musicology at the Universidade Nova in Lisbon. He teaches at the Ludovice Ensemble Summer Academy for Baroque Music, Theatre and Dance in Aveiro (Portugal) and at the Benslow Music Courses (UK).
