Edward Rushton | piano
Edward Rushton studied piano and composition at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, King’s College, Cambridge, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and the Zurich University of Applied Arts. He has been teaching piano accompaniment at the Musikhochschule Luzern since 2000.
He is an active song-recitalist, playing many recitals throughout Europe. He also plays regularly with a variety of chamber music partners. His discography includes discs for Resonus Classics, BIS, Nimbus, Lyrita, Musiques Suisses, Musicaphon, Guild and Delphian.
His love for Lieder and song led him in 2015 to found, together with a group of like-minded singers and pianists, the company ‘Besuch der Lieder’ (‘The Company of Song’) in order to further the performance of Lieder in private spaces in Switzerland, where he has been living since 1998.
Edward is also in demand as a composer. His operas have been performed throughout the UK, Switzerland, Germany, and in Philadelphia. Compositions for voice and piano also form a core part of his oeuvre, and he has already written over thirty song cycles and individual songs.
Baritone Simon Wallfisch and Edward have been regular duo partners since 2010, and have made several acclaimed discs together.
